New Year? New me? Why not?

I don't really believe in New Year's resolutions. You really just need to make changes to your life that make you happy. You don't do them because a clock is striking 12 and one year is over and another begun. You make them because you want to change something about yourself - make yourself better. I want to make myself better and I'll admit - I gave myself a break until after the holidays because of the work stress and the simple wanting to enjoy the food. Now, I am on a mission to improve myself and I'll need all the support I can get!

Back in December, I purchased a fitness & nutrition assessment from PAI Yoga & Fitness and it came with 10 classes. It was a Living social deal (www.livingsocial.com) and it was a heck of a deal. I had no idea what kind of value I'd be getting.

Today I met with Jason who was so easy to get along with. We discussed what I've been doing: walking & lots of it and what I want to do. Along with what I'll need to do to hit my weight loss goals. The fitness assessment surprised me because I got some excellent ratings in the cardio area (big surprise after completing 4 half marathons and a dozen or more 5Ks, 4 milers, etc. last year) but I did get "needs work" in the strength training areas. My resting heart rate is excellent - 55! My blood pressure was good today but still "prehypertension" at 128/80. Better than it was! I weighed in about a pound more than my last weigh in before Thanksgiving and that isn't bad considering my holiday indulgences were just that - indulgences. I was relieved because my physical last week said I was 7 pounds higher and I've been very upset about that. But I digress. I could only do 11 push-ups! 11! Unbelievable to me! I've got to improve it. My body fat is crazy too - 33.5%. My goal weight is 135 and I had that in my head by October but Jason thinks we can hit that by July if I follow his diet plans! He also was showing me some moves from TRX and I am definitely going to do that. He thinks we can get my half marathon pace down to the 12:30 minute per mile pace which is my 2011 goal if I do TRX (http://www.fitnessanywhere.co
m/) and the flexibility and strength it creates by using your own weight should help me get faster. He really jazzed me up and now I am wondering what class package I can buy to get more than my original 10. I am pretty excited about making the change and losing weight. I have been bitten by a bug and I need to keep pushing.

Based on my activity level, he says I get about 100 more calories a day than Sparkpeople. Yeah! They will give me a 6 week nutrition plan and I get to select foods I like and send him the list back. They'll provide a shopping list and everything. Now they need to give me a personal chef & I am all set!

I am excited about getting leaner and back down to 135. I'd be happy there. The best part? 133 is the lowest I should weigh.

Wish me luck!
