Last night, I walked in the Panerathon here in Columbus!! It was my best event yet! I have spent the last year training for half marathons doing some 5Ks, 10Ks, in between and never have I been able to break the 45 minute mile marker! I don't know what it was - a broken toe on my left foot - a somewhat slow day at work - but I was able to bust a move and finish at 41 minutes for a 13:14 minute mile!!!!! I was thrilled.
I love the muscle soreness I have today and look forward to some strength training tonight. Tomorrow is a long 12 mile day in prep for my half marathon in VA Beach Labor Day weekend.
Is it sick to say I am looking forward to it?????

Commitments
I have commited to myself that I would get better about what I was eating. It lasted about 2 days and then the weekend hit! Why shouldn't I go out and eat out with Steve?? I did walk almost 6 miles Saturday morning and I burnt a bunch of calories (ones I hadn't eaten yet) so I was ahead! Not really!
I stuffed my face with some lovely Mexican at Cinco De Mayo. Great place, nice people, but oh boy, was that bad for me! Then we went onto a party at a co-worker's house. I was good - ate light but did the beer I had do anything for me??? Sunday we had Korean at KaYa. One of our favorite places. Popcorn for dinner at the movies! Great choice!
I did download a calorie counter on my new Droid Incredible so I've started. Needless to say, I did not track any calories this weekend. Back on track today and really thinking about what goes in..........maybe this week can be better!

Things I do that negate my own hard work
I have been trying to figure out why I have not lost weight in this last year of over 20 miles walking weeks and training for now my 3rd marathon. If anything, I think I have put on weight.
Let's examine this - of late, I have been going out to eat more than I really should. This week, for example, I went out for both lunch and dinner on Monday. I didn't need to eat out twice! Alas, I was seeing friends I hadn't seen in a while so it is always worth it but did I make the right food selections while there? Probably not. At lunch, I went to Cosi which is a great sandwich & salad place but if you look at their nutritional value of their food online, you'd be shocked. I had a tomato, basil, mozzarella melt which is slathered with a sun dried tomato spread. Tasty but god only knows how bad for me! Then for dinner, we went to BJ's Brewhouse and I had the Parmesan crusted chicken. It came with a meager amount of broccoli and two large, flatten chicken things that looked weird. I didn't eat both of them - but I enjoyed my tiny portion of broccoli and the small amount of potatoes. My friends both had salads, and I hate to say (sorry ladies), they looked good but I don't even want to think what the calorie count in them were! It amazes me how you can kill salad with adding a few bad for you items to it! I was good Tuesday & Wednesday - packed a salad, some tuna and fruit. For dinner on Tuesday, I cooked with fresh zucchini, peppers, chicken & onions with a nice pesto sauce. It was yummy but we were out of whole wheat pasta so I ate it over white pasta. But it was better than eating out! Then, after working hard in a speed training session for race walking, I went to Chipotle. Oh how do I love Chipotle......you get fresh, "natural" food for a cheap price and a lot of it! One of my friends & I were looking at their nutritional values and the calorie counts that afternoon before I went. So I knew my bowl was about 500 calories or so. I skipped sour cream and then thought about the sodium in it......ugh! Was that moment of pleasure worth it? I think so! Again, it was a meal with friends and an enjoyable time.
So what are things I can do to change my eating pattern? Pretty easy things - adjustments to what I chose to put in my mouth and think before I order at a restaurant. Let's face it - eating out is not going to be something I can cut out all together but I could do something that I read on a friend's blog - ask for a to go container when my meal is delivered & put half of my plate in it before eating! When cooking at home, I will use more whole wheat items - especially pasta, breads, etc. I buy fruits & vegetables on the weekend at the Farmer's Market in Old Worthington and I commit to eating them all with no waste each week! I already drink a ton of water but I am going to try something else my friend's blog said - before eating lunch or dinner, drink an entire glass of water then eat. I think that would help cut down on the amount I eat! I also need to hold myself more accountable for what I am eating. I've tossed around Weightwatchers online so much that I am tired of hearing myself say "I am going to sign up soon" or "I am going to wait until I get my new cell phone before I sign up!" Excuses, that's all they are.
I WILL sign up for weightwatchers.com and I will hold myself more accountable. Maybe writing in this blog will help me with that!
